I was with this band for about 9 months, starting at the end of 2006. I ran sound for them and they let me play one song a gig on bass, which was Robert Palmer’s Bad Case Of Loving You. I’m not a fan of that song, but you have to start somewhere.
I really enjoyed learning more about sound and I like to think that I became pretty good. I still remember the show when everything came together and everything sounded great. That was no easy feat, since their PA was a mix of all kinds of older gear.
I ended up leaving the band when they wouldn’t let me fill an opening for bass guitar. The singer told me that a good sound guy was more valuable to him than a bass player. I had started playing bass for G211 by that time (no shows yet), so by the end of August of 2007, I moved on. However, that gig was a really important on-the-job ear training experience!
